Keep it Real!

Hi everyone. It’s been a while since I posted anything and I apologise for that. I’m getting tired of hearing about all the different myths regarding health and fitness, so I would like to share with you all my knowledge, from many years of experience.

I’ve been noticing how much information is out there regarding health and fitness and it can become quite daunting. So many of us aren’t happy with our appearance. Whether it be we are too fat or too skinny. Whether your really tall or really short. Our noses are too big, are eyes are too far apart. I’m not lean enough, or muscly enough. The thing is we are all different. We all have different body types and you may wish to be as skinny as the girl down the road, or as muscly as that guy at the gym, but you try and try and nothing changes, or very little anyway.

What I want to do for you all is make you the best that YOU can be. By regular exercise and eating healthy EVERYONE can achieve this. You don’t have to flog yourself at the gym or go on one of those crazy diets cutting out valuable nutrition. You just have to find the right fit for you.

Choose an activity you like doing. For instance maybe you like to play in a team sport or you like riding a bike or running. You may just enjoy something a little slower like walking or doing a yoga class. We are all different and have different likes and dislikes. The most important thing is to find that thing and make it part of your lifestyle. Small steps can take you anywhere…

I have always enjoyed eating well and exercising, but I also like my treats like chocolate or pecan pie. Yum. Just ask my kids. But all in moderation. You don’t have to give up the things you love, just don’t have it as often. Instead reward yourself.

First bit of advice I would like to give you is once you have decided you are ready to make a change, write down what you wish to achieve and when you would like to achieve it by. For example; I would like to be able to swim a lap of the pool without stopping, and I’d like to achieve it by the end of the month.

Second bit of advice is to look at what you are eating. Really look at it. Learn to read the labels on the back of containers. See how much sugar or salt is in the product. If the percentage is high I suggest you don’t buy that product. The best choices when it comes to your diet is to buy things that are closest to their natural state. Limit buying things out of a packet or can.

And thirdly, when you do decide to get out there and make a change, find a buddy who will be there beside you to help keep you on track. There’s a better chance that you will stick to it, if you have someone telling you, you CAN do it.
